CID "wins" Accountancy Age Award

[Thursday 10th October, 2005] Announced at the Accountancy Age Awards 2005, Catherine Thompson of OTM Consulting won the Accounting Technician of the Year award sponsored by the AAT for her work specifying the design for CID, a management information system for the company.

The original CID system was developed on behalf of Catherine, using her specification and design, to replace OTM Consulting's existing Excel based solution. Starting off as a frontend/backend Microsoft Access solution, CID (version 1) soon grew to use Microsoft SQL Server as a backend datastore maintaining its use of Access for a user interface. Developed to initially provide a functionally identical replacement for the existing system, CID grew to provide OTM with an end-to-end solution resulting in it acting as a cornerstone of OTM's Management Accounting.

Including a bespoke reporting engine which utilises Microsoft Excel (through Office automation) as an output media, CID provides OTM with a wide range of reports. These reports include timesheet analysis, profit analysis by trading segment and sales (both current year and future forecast). Thanks to the reports being produced as Excel spreadsheets rather than Access reports, the option is available for further ad-hoc data mining to be performed by any user of the system.
